Message From the President
Greetings from The Caribbean American Nurses Association -BMW Chapter (CANA). It is with a deep sense of pride and commitment that we welcome all of our distinguished guests who have supported us so diligently over the years. Welcome back to our 26th Annual Vernese Weekes Scholarship Luncheon. We Missed You. It has been a turbulent two and a half years since we all felt the heavy weight of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue to navigate the disruptions and challenges, COVID-19 has redefinedour lives the way we work and the way we live. Once again we are able to gather in person but with much caution because COVID-19 is not over. It is still lurking around the corner, but we are at a stage where we can come together in person to share out experiences following the challenges of the pandemic. It is times like these which brings out the best in us. When we saw our healthcare workers, especially our nurses, on the front lines of providing healthcare, and those who kept the supply lines open so we could eat, sometimes at tremendous cost to themselves, we have been inspired by their selflessness and courage. Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. As we move forward with feelings of satisfaction and enthusiasm, let us focus on our purpose to help educate young minds. This year marks the 26th Annual Vernese Weeks Scholarship Luncheon and since its inception, the organization has awarded fifty-six
scholarships to students who are attending college. Of course this would not be possible if it were not for your continued and generous support. Thank you for helping us to keep this organization solvent and relevant. Our objectives are to increase the involvement in our student’s education, develop health programs for the community, recruit new members and increase the participation of current members. Congratulations to the scholarship recipient and honorees. Please enjoy a pleasant afternoon as we are mindful of each others safety. May the good Lord continue to pour His Blessings upon you. My grateful thanks to the members who have worked tirelessly to make this luncheon possible.
